Frequently Asked Questions

Is Gestalt therapy right for me?

Gestalt therapy is not for everyone, and there is no instruction manual for the work.  It is a relational process that invites curiosity and a willingness to explore. It often involves stepping out of your comfort zone and embracing the unknown. This approach can include creative techniques, such as art, movement, role-play, and other forms of embodied non-verbal expression, helping you explore your experiences in new and meaningful ways. If we get started and you decide this not the best approach for you, I will make efforts to find you a more appropriate support.

What does the first session look like?

In our first session, we review forms that will be sent to you prior to the appointment to discuss what therapy may look like, including the potential risks and benefits, payment options, and confidentiality. I’ll ask you questions about your current challenges and your history to help me understand you better. You’ll also have a chance to get to know me, and I encourage you to check in with yourself throughout to make sure you feel safe and comfortable. At the end of our time together, we’ll discuss the next steps in your therapy journey.

How many sessions will I need?

At the start of therapy, we’ll typically agree to meet weekly or bi-weekly to help build our therapeutic relationship. There’s no rule for how often or how many sessions you’ll need, our schedule will be based on your unique needs and goals as they evolve. While no guarantee of change or improvement can be made, every session offers an opportunity to deepen your awareness and support your growth.

When are you available for sessions?

I offer virtual sessions Monday through Thursday, and in-person sessions Monday through Wednesday. For virtual appointments, we’ll use Zoom with cameras on, and I ask that you have a private space where you can talk comfortably. In-person sessions take place at my office, located at 1235 Bay St.

Are you covered by extended benefits health insurance?

This will depend on your specific benefits plan. I recommend checking your extended benefits coverage, as many plans in Ontario now include coverage for psychotherapy with a Registered Psychotherapist.

What types of payment do you accept?

Payment options include Interac e-transfer, online credit card processing, or cash. Please note that I do not bill insurance companies directly. Invoices and receipts are issued for all appointments.

Do you have experience working with 2SLGBTQIA+ and BIPOC folks?

I work with a variety of clients from diverse backgrounds and am committed to fostering an affirming, non-judgmental space where all aspects of your identity are valued. Your unique experience will be welcomed with openness, compassion and curiosity.

I identify as a non-traditional straight white cis woman, and I’m a first-generation immigrant and settler, arriving in Canada from Kyiv (Soviet Union) as a Jewish refugee in childhood. Raised in a working-class home, I am also a parent to a biracial child. These experiences shape who I am and how I approach therapy, and I’m deeply committed to honouring intersectionality as it influences my identity and experience of privilege.
